Pendragon

Pendragon is an English progressive rock band formed in 1979, originally known as Zeus Pendragon. The band is considered a significant name in the neo-progressive rock scene alongside groups like Marillion and IQ. Their music is characterized by melodic compositions, emotional guitar work, and thematic storytelling.

The original lineup included Nick Barrett (vocals, guitar), Peter Gee (bass), Rik Carter (keyboards), and Nigel Harris (drums). Over the years, Pendragon underwent several lineup changes, with Nick Barrett remaining the central figure. The current lineup features Barrett, Clive Nolan on keyboards, Peter Gee on bass, and Jan-Vincent Velazco on drums.

Pendragon’s debut album, The Jewel (1985), helped establish their signature sound, but it was their 1991 album The World and subsequent releases like The Window of Life (1993) and The Masquerade Overture (1996) that solidified their reputation. These albums feature a mix of lush keyboard arrangements and Barrett’s evocative guitar solos, appealing to fans of emotional and atmospheric rock.

In later years, Pendragon evolved their sound, incorporating heavier elements in albums like Pure (2008) and Passion (2011), while maintaining their neo-prog roots. The band’s independent label, Toff Records, has been instrumental in their releases and artistic freedom.
