Massada

Massada is a Dutch Latin-rock band formed in the 1970s, notable for blending Latin rhythms with rock and jazz influences. The group primarily consists of members with Moluccan heritage and has been compared to Santana, though the band initially was unaware of Santana’s music. Massada achieved success with their debut album Astaganaga (1978), which included hits like “Latin Dance” and “Dansa.” These tracks gained considerable popularity, charting in the Netherlands.

Their subsequent albums, such as Pukul Tifa (1979) and Pusaka (1980), solidified their presence in the Dutch music scene. They are known for their dynamic live performances and intricate percussion arrangements. Their song “Sajang é” topped charts in the Netherlands during the 1980s, further highlighting their impact.

Massada celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2023, with a lineup featuring founding member Johnny Manuhutu and other key musicians. They continue to perform, with upcoming shows planned in the Netherlands.
