Heaven 17
Heaven 17 is a British synth-pop band formed in Sheffield, England, in 1980. The band consists of Martyn Ware, Ian Craig Marsh, and Glenn Gregory. All three members were originally part of the electronic band The Human League, but they left to form Heaven 17 after disagreements over the direction of the group.
Heaven 17 quickly gained recognition for their sophisticated and politically charged synth-pop sound. They released their debut album, “Penthouse and Pavement,” in 1981, which featured hit singles such as “Temptation” and “Let Me Go.” These songs, with their catchy melodies and socially conscious lyrics, became emblematic of the early 1980s synth-pop movement.
Throughout the 1980s and beyond, Heaven 17 continued to release albums and singles, exploring different musical styles while maintaining their electronic roots. Their music often incorporates elements of funk, soul, and dance, and they are known for their innovative use of synthesizers and electronic production techniques.
Heaven 17’s influence on the synth-pop genre is significant, and their music continues to be celebrated by fans of electronic and alternative music. Their enduring popularity is a testament to their musical talent and their ability to create timeless and thought-provoking music.
