DI-RECT
Di-rect is a Dutch rock band that has been a prominent fixture in the Dutch music scene since the late 1990s. The band was formed in The Hague in 1999 and originally consisted of members Tim Akkerman (vocals), Frans “Spike” van Zoest (guitar), Bas van Wageningen (bass), Jamie Westland (drums), and Vince van Reeken (keyboards).
Di-rect initially gained attention with their energetic live performances and melodic rock sound, drawing influences from various rock genres including alternative rock, punk rock, and post-grunge. Their early albums, such as “Over the Moon” (2003) and “All Systems Go!” (2005), helped establish them as one of the leading rock bands in the Netherlands.
In 2009, Tim Akkerman left the band, and Marcel Veenendaal took over as the lead vocalist. With Veenendaal, Di-rect continued to release successful albums and singles, including “This Is Who We Are” (2010) and “Daydreams in a Blackout” (2014).
Throughout their career, Di-rect has earned multiple awards and nominations, including several 3FM Awards and Edison Awards. They are known for their dynamic live performances, which often feature a combination of powerful rock anthems and more intimate, acoustic moments.
Di-rect’s enduring popularity and continued relevance in the Dutch music scene have solidified their status as one of the most respected and influential rock bands in the country.
